Leadership

During November 2003 William Angliss commenced the implementation of the Strategic People Management Framework (SPMF). At this time a series of full day workshops were held for all levels of management to identify the specific skills and knowledge required to enhance managerial and leadership skills at William Angliss.

These workshops provided invaluable feedback for facilitating a series of management and leadership development sessions for their managers as part of their learning and development participation for 2004 and beyond. Flexible opportunities were available to all levels of management to enable participation in the Implementatiion of the Strategic People Management Framework.

Kangan Batman TAFE conducted a Leadership Development program as part of the Institute's overall Organisation Development Strategy. Leadership Development as an Organisational Development Strategy was a major emphasis of the Leadership Development program conducted by Kangan Batman TAFE.

Mentoring/coaching

Coaching/mentoring has been a feature of a number of professional development programs conducted by Chisholm Institute during 2003, but has usually been one of a number of support strategies within a particular program. The team at Chisholm were keen to build on the skills already developed and to increase their pool of trained coaches as well as provide a structure to support new mentors and mentorees. An additional objective was to promote a lifelong learning culture within the Institute.

The Mentoring Pilot Program was initiated.

Online/flexible delivery

VUT allocated LearnScope funds to work-based project teams to build their ICT capabilities and improve their service delivery to clients.
The Departments saw the need to develop teachers skills in using video and audio, to support their class room based teaching and to develop self access resources to implement a communal server to allow for the sharing of files and resources across geographically diverse campus locations.

The project Building Video Skills for Online Learning addresses these issues.

Teaching and Learning

In June 2002 The Hon. Lynne Kosky, MP released Knowledge and Skills for the Innovation Economy, a statement that signalled the reforming and re-positioning of the VET system to provide training that will assist Victoria to compete in an increasingly global economy.

Senior managers at the University of Ballarat (TAFE Division) were committed to addressing the imperative to embed employability skills into course delivery and to ensure that UB graduates are work-ready and capable of becoming lifelong learners.

The Transferable (Generic/Employability) Skills project was conceived with this in mind.

Staff Support

Research was undertaken through the Professional Development Unit, Swinburne University - TAFE Division to identify all the requirements – knowledge, skills, experience, qualifications and values that are expected of teachers as they progress through their careers at Swinburnne.

The project ‘The Swinburne Teaching Professional: A guide for TAFE Teachers’ resulted in the production of a booklet by the same name.

The Open Program supports RMIT’s ‘Dissolving the Boundaries’ strategy as a ‘knowledge organisation’ and gives all staff the opportunity to develop further in order to achieve strategic goals.

It predominantly provides staff with access to one-day calendared workshops, which are accessible as centrally organised and conducted programs.

The workshops are divided into the following categories:
• Teaching and Learning
• Research and Innovation
• Managing in our environment
• Working in our environment

The Action, Reflection and Collaboration community of practice was established by Kangan Batman TAFE for 26 teachers to reflect on professional practice with the aim of overcoming the isolation experienced by many teachers and to improve learning outcomes for students.
