Excellence in Governance: A guide to best practice in TAFE Institute Councils
This Guide was designed in 1996 to help Council members in the Victorian TAFE system to understand and adapt to the changes initiated by the former Kennett Liberal Coalition Government in Victoria.

A Guide to the Responsible Governance of Victoria's TAFE Institutes
The Guide to the Responsible Governance of Victoria's TAFE Institutes is a second Volume that updates and builds on the previous Volume, Excellence in Governance : A Guide to Best Practice in TAFE Institute Councils, developed by the VTA in 1996.
The Volumes are different but complementary documents and share the common purpose of building the capability of the public TAFE sector and thereby assisting Victoria's publicly owned TAFE Institutes to achieve success. Both Volumes are discretionary resources, developed primarily to enhance the capacity of those people who selflessly give of their time and expertise to serve as responsible Councilors on a TAFE Institute Council and equally, to act as a reference point for Senior executives in TAFE.

Good Governance Diagnostic Survey
This unique Governance survey is a diagnostic process that enables Institute Councils and Management teams to record their perceptions about how well the organisation is performing in relation to Governance in 11 key areas.
Developed for use in conjunction with the VTA publication A Guide to the Responsible Governance of Victoria’s TAFE Institutes, the tool asks for a ranking for a series of specific issues relating to each topic such as Risk Management. Scores range between 0 and 10 and averages for each module and an overall score is automatically calculated.
The diagnostic survey is intended to be both a health check and a precursor to the Institute’s Strategic planning process. Together with the VTA publication A Guide to the Responsible Governance of Victoria’s TAFE Institutes the survey forms an integral part of a structured program of professional development for Institute Council members.
